The Application and Repairing of Hydraulic Servo Valves in Seismic Vibrator Trucks for Oil and Gas Exploration

The Application of Servo Valves in Seismic Vibrator Trucks for Oil and Gas Exploration

In the field of oil and gas exploration, Seismic Vibrator truck is a core equipment that provides reliable geological data support for resource exploration. As a key control component of Seismic Vibrator truck, the servo valve directly determines the stability, accuracy and efficiency of the Seismic Vibrator truck, and plays an irreplaceable role in the safe and efficient development of oil and gas resources. This article focuses on the application of servo valves in Seismic Vibrator truck for oil and gas exploration, and elaborates on the purpose, working principle of Seismic Vibrator truck and the specific application of servo valves.

The Function of Seismic Vibrator Truck in Oil and Gas Exploration

Seismic Vibrator truck, or controllable seismic source, is an eco-friendly and efficient mechanical seismic source widely used in oil and gas exploration.

It generates controllable artificial seismic waves that travel underground and reflect off different geological strata. By analyzing the reflected signals, geologists can determine the distribution, thickness and structure of underground oil and gas reservoirs, providing a scientific basis for drilling and exploitation.

Compared with traditional explosive sources, it features controllable vibration frequency, adjustable energy, low pollution and strong anti-interference capacity, making it the preferred equipment for modern seismic exploration, especially in environmentally and safety-sensitive areas.

The Working Principle of Seismic Vibrator Truck

Servo Valves in Seismic Vibrator truck

The servo valve serves as the nerve center of the seismic vibrator truck’s hydraulic control system, acting as a key link between the control system and the hydraulic execution system. It converts electrical control signals into hydraulic signals, precisely regulating the direction, flow rate and pressure of high-pressure hydraulic oil to the actuator. Its performance directly determines the vibration accuracy, frequency range and signal fidelity of the vibrator.
Working Principles of Servo Valves in Controllable Seismic Sources
Typically a multi-stage structure, the servo valve adjusts its internal orifice opening according to preset scanning signals (frequency, amplitude, duration), controlling the hydraulic oil flow in the actuator cylinder. This allows the piston to reciprocate at high speed, driving the reaction mass and vibration plate to generate stable, controllable seismic waves. High‑performance servo valves reduce harmonic distortion, improve control accuracy, suppress resonance, and ensure high‑quality seismic signals.

As exploration precision requirements rise, demand for high‑performance servo valves — featuring high resolution, fast response, vibration and pollution resistance — keeps growing. These valves adapt to harsh field conditions, support stable long‑term operation, and guarantee efficient, accurate oil and gas exploration.

Application of Our Company’s Servo Valves in Seismic Vibrator Trucks

Currently, the main servo valve model is the MOOG 760C928A. Its main stage valve 240H has a maximum flow rate of 908 L/min, and the vibration frequency ranges from 1.5 to 120 Hz. However, at low frequencies (around 3 Hz), the required maximum flow rate exceeds 1300 L/min.

At present, the servo valves jointly developed by our company with multiple seismic vibrator truck manufacturers can fully replace the equivalent MOOG servo valves, and complete domestic substitution has been achieved.
